Day 21 in Gratitude

Today was hard. My husband and I are going through a tough transitional period and it's difficult on both of us. These past two years have been a roller coaster of moving many times, unemployment, losing a house and more. I am thankful we can talk through the more challenging days and try to understand each others feelings as best as we can.

We had plans to go out for dinner with friends tonight but I'm not feeling well. I am grateful to have stayed home, in my pajamas, eating tomato soup for dinner and watching a silly movie.

I am grateful for my life. No matter what the challenges life brings I love my life. I love the ups and downs, the uncertainty, the lessons to be learned, the roller coaster. God gave me a safety belt and a positive attitude to get through anything with a small crying fit and a smile.

What are you grateful for?

  1. I am grateful to have so much understanding in my life. While I've made a large part of my professional life about communicating, sometimes the most personal aspect of that comes up short.

and by that, I only mean subject to interpretation, and as such . . . unclear, and not so elegant.

we are by design each of us, a very closed system. our thoughts are our own. they exist in our minds, and the challenge, if we even choose to accept it . . . is to share those thoughts, and make them as clear to others as they are to us.

taking that step of sharing is to me a hugely underrated step. it means taking a personal abstraction, and making it palpable to others.

with that step, and i continue to believe that it is a uniquely brave step . . . comes with it a dedication to assuring that the thought remains clear outside of your own personal inner world. that's not easy.

but every once in a while . . . every once in a while - it works, most particularly on an emotional level.

i choose to call that love. and i am blessed to have a partner who believes as i do, that that is possible. maybe not always pretty . . . but possible, and a gateway to increased love and understanding.

i am so grateful for my wife who has dedicated this 365 days to just that . . . expressing her gratitude for her ability to express, and to be understood. on her own terms, and on others.

i challenge you all to do the same. to step outside of your very private world, and let others know how grateful you are. for being alive. for having thoughts that are important to you. and for having thoughts that you feel are important enough to share with those that you love, on whatever level.

love is probably key, and ultimately the most unique driver to all of this. reach out beyond some cliche that says love is all there is . . . and understand that it is actually true.
